Mission

The Ridgefield Prevention Council supports a safe and healthy environment for all of Ridgefield’s families through awareness, education and positive alternatives to alcohol and other substance use in an effort to reduce high-risk youth behaviors.

Goals:

  • Create awareness of risky behavior including: alcohol use, prescription medication use, drug use, texting while driving, unprotected sexual activity
  • Provide education to the community about the risky behaviors and their consequences
  • Support positive alternatives to high-risk behavior

Who We Are

The Council has retained a dedicated core group of members, plus other volunteers, who work to implement innovative, effective programs with measurable outcomes for the benefit of families and youth in Ridgefield. Council members include local citizens, medical professionals, RHS students, business and community leaders:

RPC Council members are volunteers who have offered their time to fulfill the mission of RPC. Members must affirm their interest to the Ridgefield Board of Selectmen, and be appointed by vote of the BOS for an annual term.

Background:

The Ridgefield Prevention Council was officially established by a unanimous vote of the Ridgefield Board of Selectmen in the November 3, 2004 BOS meeting. In that meeting, J. Plock moved and P. Yanity seconded a motion to recommend that the Ridgefield Community Prevention Council become a Board of Selectmen appointed committee, and that the following individuals be appointed for a one year term subject to annual reappointment: Lynne Harmelin, Patricia Michele Fisher, Taylor McCall Mazza, Janelle Bessette, Lisa Petrucelli.

The Council is a realignment of the efforts of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Committee and the Ridgefield Community Partnership. The RPC is the recipient of the Housatonic Valley grant money which is awarded annually.
